After weeks of tension, plots and backstabbing, Celebrity Traitors concludes with a thrilling finale
Spoiler alert - This article discloses details from Celebrity Traitors finale
Over the course of the show, viewers witnessed eliminations, betrayals, intense glares, and a memorable moment that pierced all tension.
Yet on the final evening, the final winner of the first celebrity edition emerged triumphant.
Out of 19 contestants, just a handful remained: Traitors and faithfuls facing off for the prize.
Soon, the field narrowed to only three contenders: the final players.
Ultimately, comedian Alan Carr was crowned the champion, in a surprising result that broke the internet and left him emotional.
"This has been destroying me, I'm so sorry," he declared, admitting to the remaining faithfuls that he was actually a traitor. "I'm an awful human being."
"You did brilliantly," they comforted him. "It's all right."
Social media quickly erupted with the news. "The worst deceiver being the best traitor ever," wrote a viewer.
"There could not have been a more iconic ending," stated a different person, while a third called it "the TV moment of the year."
The organization he selected, a cancer charity, gets to keep all the prize money, with the final pot reaching £87,500.
Alan Carr's transformation from comic relief to cold-hearted killer was one of the standout highlights of the season.
But his win still shocked viewers surprised, according to industry observers.
"The thought of him, among everyone, executing a masterclass in deceit felt about as likely as him keeping a straight face through one of his own punchlines."
On subsequent discussions, fellow players explained why no one had ever really suspected him.
"Alan could have come down to the morning meal in a green cloak and I wouldn't have believed he was a traitor. I was too busy laughing," one participant said.
"Most people didn't target him because how does one eliminate someone who is so loveable?" questioned a different contestant.
Carr said he had "thoroughly enjoyed" his time on the program.
"I'd like to do it again... I don't think it would be successful again!"
Thursday evening's installment was lengthened to 70 minutes on television. It had a different start than typical episodes, as every celebrity were aware who would appear at the morning gathering.
Viewers heard some very uplifting, and atypical for the show music, as the episode revisited some moments from each of the finalists' experience in the game.
As ever, the comedian provided unforgettable quotes.
"Let's face it, I started the competition a bit of an anxious mess. I've thrown some really good friends to save myself, I've murdered beloved figures in plain sight. I'm clearly a better liar and player than I thought."
Meanwhile, a different player noted that reaching the conclusion was "way more stressful than competing with England", while another said he was "completely amazed" to have lasted this long.
Early on of the finale, various contestants appeared to be attempting to become the new style icon of the competition, replacing an earlier departed style leader.
The winner appeared at breakfast looking like a 1950s US chat show host in a checked maroon suit, later switching into a bejewelled white suit.
However, he got outstyled by another contestant's maroon velvet tuxedo. Impressive style.
Following this was the challenge, with the final players getting on board a train named - of course - The Traitors Express.
The challenge saw them ripping up images of former contestants. Spare a thought for one participant who was hit on the head THREE times by the lid of a substantial container.
Soon after, the moment arrived for the elimination discussion.
Two traitors made a pact beforehand, pledging to support each other. "We've progressed significantly, I won't throw him under a bus," said one, while the other simply laughed.
And one adhered to his promise. Yet, managing to stay under the radar for most of the game, the other still received the majority elimination votes.
The last deceiver appeared to be experiencing significant distress to be the last traitor standing. "Being alone, I feel terrified," he said. "I'm unpredictable, without direction."
Online platforms and onlookers were equally disappointed.
"I did NOT want that player to be eliminated. A truly loveable traitor," said a commentator.
"Your legacy will remain in Traitors history," wrote a different viewer.
However, there remained no time to dwell on this departure. Before long, the game reached the endgame - this being what we were really all here for.
The final four stood over the fire pit. Meanwhile, the partnership collapsed, just when it was most crucial, in a truly WTF moment.
One contestant was eliminated in dramatic fashion - after a shock vote from their ally, who betrayed them.
"It hurts to be stabbed in the back at the final moment like that," remarked the eliminated player. Later, we learned that when they message, the eliminated contestant refers to the other by a betrayer's name.
Ultimately, just three players were still competing: the final trio.
A contestant, looking incredibly smug, chose to conclude the competition. The same decision was made by another, and everything depended on the third, who made the identical choice - which meant that the traitor was the winner.
For observers, the moment where the other players consoled the champion was "compelling television". "I anticipate it could be in the running for outstanding scene at television honors," they commented.
Happily, the champion quickly regained composure from his bout of tears, and was able to enjoy his victory.
"Such an emotional journey. I thought I was terrible at deception, my expressions gave me away and here I am the champion," he said.
He also joked about the memorable elimination - his close ally during the initial stages - by leaning toward the presenter in the concluding moments and making contact.
"You've got something on your face," he said, with his trademark giggle.
The recent episodes of celebrity gossiping, scheming and the occasional unexpected moments may seem like a bizarre fantasy. But it really did all happen. It will be remembered fondly.
