Jennifer Lawrence Says Mentioning Donald Trump Would ‘Intensify Divisions’ Tearing the Country Apart
Jennifer Lawrence has declared that she finds it inappropriate suitable to comment publicly against the Trump government, worried it could exacerbate unhelpful debate and deepen rifts across the country.
‘I’m Unsure If It’s Wise’, Notes Jennifer Lawrence
During a discussion, she shared, “Back in Trump’s initial term, I believed I was acting frantically like a chicken with my head cut off. But it’s become clear, through repeated campaigns, celebrities fail to influence whatsoever on electoral choices.”
She continued, “What’s the point? I’m just expressing personal views on an issue that’s going to add fuel to a fire that’s ripping the country apart.”
Shifting Views
Lawrence has previously been open about voting for both Republican and Democratic contenders over the years. Growing up with Republican parents in her home state, she voted for the Republican nominee in the 2008 election then moving to the Democratic party and explaining she understood during the Obama era that backing conservatives was voting against her personal freedoms as a woman.
Earlier Remarks
Several years ago, she commented that Donald Trump’s election might signal “the end of the world” and endorsed the Democratic candidate in the 2020 election. During the most recent election, she lent her support to Kamala Harris, “since I feel she’s a strong contender and I am confident that she will do whatever she can to protect abortion access.”
Industry Position
Jennifer Lawrence was supported by most of Hollywood in her disapproval of Donald Trump as a presidential contender, but the limited influence stars have over the voting intentions was highlighted by his election win.
“Another four years appears changed,” commented the actress about his leadership. “Because he stated his intentions. We understood his record for the previous administration. He was explicit. And voters made that decision.”
Latest Film
The actor is discussing Die, My Love, the filmmaker’s movie in which she portrays a new mother who struggles with her emotional state in the countryside. Speaking at a press conference for the movie in the film festival, Lawrence commented on Israel’s bombings in Gaza: “I’m terrified. It’s horrifying. What’s occurring is no less than a atrocity and it’s terrible.”
Additional Thoughts
Lawrence added by expressing that she was disappointed by “the disrespect in the conversations of U.S. political debates currently and how that is going to be accepted to the children today. It’s going to be typical to them that politicians lie.”
She aimed to shift anger about the situation to decision-makers rather than actors and artists. “Stay focused on who is responsible,” she said, seen by observers as a nod to the declaration endorsed by more than 4,000 arts community members to refuse engagement with certain cultural organizations.
Personal Connections
Jennifer Lawrence, who received an Academy Award at a young age for her role in her breakout movie, is attracting awards attention for her portrayal in her latest project. While the director has rejected the story being seen as one of postpartum depression and mental illness, the actress revealed that she did relate to elements of her film narrative after the delivery of her youngest child, soon after shooting ended.
“It was fear about my child,” she commented, “envisioning every worst-case scenario, and then second-guessing everything that I was attempting. I was seeing a therapist, but I got on a drug called the prescription and I used it for two weeks and it made a difference.”
Career Moments
Lawrence also discussed about the freeing requirement of shooting revealing sequences in the project while she was in pregnancy and limited physically.
“It’s refreshing,” she commented, regarding the need to set aside self-consciousness. “Truly, I sometimes think where I’m like, What separates me between myself and a sex worker? But it isn’t a major concern.”
