Kansas City Chiefs Confirm Domestic Violence Claims Involving Player Rashee Rice
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night confirming they have knowledge of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of player Rashee Rice and were in contact with the NFL.
The team did not mention the player specifically in their statement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Claims Shared on Social Media
The woman, who also did not mention Rice by name, shared a set of images on Instagram that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has kids with the football player, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.
Police Reports Currently Not on File
No police reports were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have taken place.
Rice's Recent Legal Issues
Rice was absent for the first six games of this season following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in instigating a crash on a Texas roadway that left multiple people injured. He was given 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to serious offenses.
Statistically, Rice concluded the year with 53 catches for 571 yards and five TDs as the Chiefs went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a decade.
