The Red Devils Set to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for United
Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.
Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Steam at Old Trafford
Securing the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be building momentum.
Their recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further activity:
- The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
